2019 Thunderbird Day Celebration
Chapter #57 celebrated the annual Thunderbird Appreciation Day with a cruise out on Sat June 8th (it rained every weekend in May – so our first dry Saturday became our play date! The Thunderbirds assembled at club member John & Darcy Knapp’s for an 11:30a start. The group enjoyed a game of I SPY (also known around here as Hilltown Bingo) on the journey, the goal to spot points of interest, live animals (we are in the country) and road kill to fill in your bingo card. Everyone was awarded a prize at the outset (travel cooler with beverages) and we caravanned to our first stop, The Schoharie Train Museum. We had a nice visit and tour with the museum curator and learned all about old trains and how they worked and provided supplies for the area residents.
We picked up one more T-Bird at the Train Museum and headed to our next stop, the Gallupville Gas Up – we all got to park in a farmer’s field and tour the amazing motorized farming contraptions of yesteryear. From corn shuckers and grinders to all hit/miss engines, and a variety of tractors, it was a great stop. Everyone sampled the home-made ice cream (more like a milk shake in the heat!) and then we rounded up our Thunderbirds and headed over to Warner Lake for lunch at Maple on the Lake.
It was an amazing day, perfect weather and there were no break downs, so you cannot ask for any more than that! Lunch was lake side (but inside in the a/c) and afterwards everyone headed home.
